Amed (Diyarbakır)- The recent attacks on North and East Syria and Aleppo by armed groups continue to spark outrage all around the world, especially among the Kurdish people. “We will defend Rojava with the spirit of Kobanê,” said the members of the Peace Mothers’ Assembly in Amed, expressing their support to the people of Rojava.
‘They cannot make peace by attacking’
In an interview with NuJINHA, Şaide Hayme, member of the Peace Mothers’ Assembly in Amed, called for an end to bloodshed and wars. “The attacks on Rojava will fail, just like before,” she said. “How long will these greedy people keep bargaining over the Kurdish people and their gains? The whole world has become hostile to the Kurds, aiming to annihilate them. Assad fled his country without fighting. Their only concern is the Kurdish people and their gains. They aim to destroy the gains of the Kurdish people and slaughter the Kurds. They want the people of the region to surrender to them. But the Kurdish people of all ages will never surrender. Today, the people of Aleppo and Rojava fight to defend themselves. Even mothers take up weapons to protect their children. All countries play a role in the recent attacks. We always stand with the people of Rojava. The attacks and chaos must end so that children are not slaughtered and blood is not shed anymore.”
‘They will lose’
Nafiye Yiğit, another member of the assembly, believes that peace can be achieved in the Middle East if the isolation imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan is lifted. “As mothers demanding peace, we will never leave the people of Rojava alone,” she said, criticizing the Turkish state for targeting Rojava while talking about a new peace process. “If they (Turkish government) want to start a new peace progress, they should first lift the isolation imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan because he is the key to peace and solution. Today, the whole world knows the Kurdish people. Tanks and weapons cannot intimidate the Kurdish people.”
‘The Kurds cannot be annihilated’
The Kurds cannot be annihilated, Nafiye Yiğit emphasized. “We exist and we always stand by our cause. As a mother, I call on everyone to stand for peace.”
‘They aim to do what they could not before’
“Many people sacrificed their lives to build Rojava and the enemies of the Kurds now target the gains of the Kurdish people,” said Türkan Duman, member of the assembly. “10 years ago, the enemies tried to occupy Rojava but the people of Rojava did not allow them. Those who were defeated in Kobanê aim to do what they could not before. Today, all systems aim to revive ISIS. They have united to annihilate the Kurdish people but they will never achieve their goal. We resisted in Kobanê and now we resist again. We cannot sleep while our people are fighting in Rojava. If we had the opportunity, we would go there to support them. We stand with the people of Rojava and we will do our best to support them.”
