Aydın – The dead body of 16-year-old Yağmur Tayhan was found two days after she had gone missing. 53-year-old Nizam Cansızlar was arrested for killing Yağmur Tayhan. Yesterday, Yağmur Tayhan was sent to her last journey at the Didim Denizköy Cemetery after the autopsy at the Izmir Forensic Medicine Institute.

“Istanbul Convention should come into force again”

After the funeral ceremony, hundreds of women came together at Kent Square under the leadership of Didim Women's Platform. Republican People's Party (CHP) Women's Branch member Arzu Barutçu read a statement on behalf of the women. Stating that femicides are not committed by individuals, Arzu Barutçu said, “Law No. 6284 should be implemented effectively and the Istanbul Convention, which Turkey withdrew with the decision of one-man despite all our reactions, should come into force again. All politicians should do their duty to carry out long-term education programs, anti-crime policies, and child protection policies. All members of parliament, so-called the representatives of people, are responsible for femicides because they cannot protect children and women.”

“We will follow this case”

Underlined that they, as women, will not accept any reduced sentence to be given to the perpetrator, Arzu Barutçu said, “Our struggle in the streets will continue until femicides and violence against women end, we will struggle for women to live safe and not be killed like Yağmur.”
