#OpenHaburBorderGate: Social media hashtag campaign for killed Kurdish journalists
Two journalists’ associations have started a social media hashtag campaign, supporting the delegation kept waiting at the Khabour Border Crossing to retrieve bodies of killed journalists.
Amed- The Mesopotamia Women Journalists Association (MKG) and the Dicle Fırat Journalists’ Association (DFG) have launched an online campaign under the hashtag “#OpenHaburBorderGate” to support the delegation kept waiting at the Khabour Border Crossing to retrieve bodies of journalists Cihan Bilgin and Nazım Daştan, who were killed in a Turkish drone strike in northeastern Syria on December 19, 2024.
The delegation consisting of family members of the journalists, Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Mardin MP Kamuran Tanhan, members of the Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) and the Lawyers Association for Freedom (ÖHD) and representatives of NGOs has been kept waiting at the border crossing for 43 hours.
“The delegation and the family members (of the journalists) travelling to retrieve the bodies of the journalists killed in North and East Syria have been kept waiting at the border crossing,” said the associations, calling on everyone to support the delegation on social media platforms under the “#OpenHaburBorderGate” hashtag every night at 8 PM until the delegation retrieves the bodies of the journalists.
