One killed in attack on HDP Izmir building

An armed assailant attacked the HDP Izmir building and set the building on fire. The assailant took Deniz Poyraz hostage in the building and killed her.

News Center - An armed assailant attacked the building of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Izmir province and set the building on fire. Deniz Poyraz, who was taken hostage by the attacker, was reportedly killed.

“An assailant with a shotgun has attacked our office in İzmir. One of our party members was in the office during the incident. The perpetrator and the instigators of the attack are clear. The government will be responsible for any negative consequences,” the HDP said on Twitter.

The party also said that HDP members are gathering in front of the building.

HDP Group Deputy Chairperson Saruhan Oluç joined a TV program and announced that the assailant killed one of their friends. The name of the killed woman has been announced as 40-year-old Deniz Poyraz.

“An armed assailant entered our building and killed our friend. Those who constantly targeting our party are responsible for this attack,” HDP Urfa MP Ayşe Sürücü said.
