"No to Execution Tuesday" Campaign Expands to 54 Prisons in Its 92nd Week
In its 92nd week, the “No to Execution Tuesday” campaign has expanded to include 54 prisons across Iran, amid an unprecedented surge in executions, with authorities recording 283 executions in just one month.
News Center - In a statement, participants in the “No to Execution Tuesday” campaign emphasized that the Iranian authorities use death sentences as a means to spread fear and silence voices calling for freedom, under a tyrannical regime that has oppressed the people for over 46 years.
The campaign entered its 92nd consecutive week today, Tuesday, October 28, expanding to include 54 prisons following the participation of inmates in Tirtcheh Prison in Borujerd and Ilam Prison.
The participants issued a statement saying: “With the campaign entering its 92nd week, authorities have documented 283 executions in one month, a new record added to their horrifying track record.” The statement noted that this month has been the bloodiest in recent decades, with executions including seven political prisoners, seven women, and two minors.
The statement further noted that since last Tuesday, 59 executions have been recorded, including those of two women. The wave of executions coincides with the issuance and confirmation of new death sentences against political prisoners, including Kavous Abdollahzadeh and Zahra Tabari in Lakan Prison in Rasht, as well as the Supreme Court’s confirmation of the death sentences of Manouchehr Fallah and Ehsan Faridi.
The statement also mentioned that officials at Evin Prison, along with security forces, attempted to take Ehsan Avarishti for execution, but the prisoners resisted. There remain serious concerns that he may be transferred at any moment for execution.
“These harsh sentences are a clear attempt to instill fear in society and silence the voices of the Iranian people striving for freedom under a despotic government that has, for over 46 years, ruled through corruption, plunder, and oppression — leading the country toward death and destruction while clinging to power through executions.”
The statement affirmed that the people continue to resist the machinery of repression and death, noting that the inclusion of Tirtcheh Prison in Borujerd and Ilam Prison has strengthened the campaign’s momentum, allowing the voice of resistance from behind prison walls to reach the world. Families of those sentenced to death staged a moving protest outside the Parliament, chanting “No to Execution,” declaring that no force can extinguish the flame of freedom and the right to life.
The statement reiterated that execution is a criminal tool used by authoritarian regimes, stressing that no religious or political justification can legitimize depriving a human being of their right to life.
“Every execution is a deep wound in the body of society and a sign of the failure of law, human dignity, and justice.”
The signatories demanded an immediate halt to all executions, the revocation of all death sentences, and unrestricted access for international human rights organizations to prisons and detainees in Iran. They also announced that they would begin a hunger strike today, Tuesday, October 28, across the 54 prisons participating in the campaign.
Among the participating prisons are: Evin Prison (wards 6 and 7), Qezel Hesar Prison (units 2, 3, and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Fardis Prison, Greater Tehran Prison, Qarchak Prison, Khorrin Varamin Prison, Choubandar Qazvin Prison, Ahar Prison, Arak Prison, Langeroud Prison, Qom Prison, Khorramabad Prison, Yasuj Prison, Asadabad Prison, Isfahan Prison, Dastgerd Prison, Sheiban Prison, Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz (men’s and women’s wards), Nezam Prison, Adelabad Prison in Shiraz (men’s and women’s wards), and many others.
