News Center_ Security measures continure in Iran with ongoing arrests and sentences against activists and protesters, amid escalating human rights criticism over restrictions on public freedoms and the treatment of detainees.

Narges Heydari, a fitness and bodybuilding trainer from the city of Izeh and one of those arrested during the recent protests in the country, has been sentenced to five years in prison, along with an additional one‑year penalty on charges of "seeking fame"—a penalty that includes restrictions on her personal freedoms due to her sports activities and her non‑compliance with mandatory hijab.

According to human rights reports, the prison sentence was issued by a branch of the Revolutionary Court in Ahvaz on charges of "acting against national security." Informed sources explained that the additional penalty related to "seeking fame" is also connected to Narges Heydari's sports participation without adhering to mandatory hijab.

Narges Heydari had been arrested last January by the Intelligence Organization of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps after finishing her work in the Red Crescent area at the Izeh prayer grounds, before being transferred to Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz, where she is still being held. Security forces also arrested her brother, Nemat Heydari.
