News Center- The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) MPs Pervin Buldan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder issued a written statement on Sunday about their meeting with Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan in the prison island of Imrali on December 28.

“On December 28, 2024, we held a comprehensive meeting with Mr. Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı. His health is good, and his morale is high. His assessments on finding a permanent solution to the Kurdish question were of vital importance,” the statement said.

“During the meeting, the recent developments in the Middle East and Türkiye were evaluated and Mr. Öcalan presented positive solution proposals against the imposed dark future scenarios,” Pervin Buldan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder said in the statement, adding:

“The general framework of his thoughts and approach is as follows:

·         Re-strengthening the Turkish-Kurdish fraternity once again is not only a historic responsibility but also a matter of a fateful importance and an indication of urgency for all people.

·         For the process to succeed, it is essential that all political groups in Türkiye take initiative, act constructively and make positive contributions without getting caught up on narrow, short-term interests. One of the key platforms for these contributions will undoubtedly be the TBMM (Turkish Grand National Assembly).

·         The events in Gaza and Syria have shown that the resolution of this issue, which is exacerbated by external interventions, can no longer be delayed. The opposition's contributions and proposals are also crucial for achieving a solution proportional to the seriousness of this issue.

·         I have the appropriate competence and determination to provide the required positive contribution to the new paradigm supported by Mr. Bahçeli and Mr. Erdoğan.

·         The delegation will share my perspective with both the state and political circles. In the light of these, I am ready to take the necessary positive steps and issue a call.

·         All of our efforts will elevate the country to the level it deserves and will also serve as a valuable guide for democratic transformation.

·         This era is an era of peace, democracy and fraternity for Türkiye and the region.”
