Kurdistan Region: Deaths of 60 women recorded suspicious deaths in 2022
Women's Legal Assistance Organization (WOLA) has announced that 60 women died under suspicious circumstances in the Kurdistan Region in the six months of 2022.
News Center -The rates of femicide and gender-based violence have been on an alarming rise in the Kurdistan Region in recent months. The Women's Legal Assistance Organization (WOLA), a NGO based in Sulaymaniyah held a press conference to release its report on gender-based violence in the Kurdistan Region. 60 women died under suspicious circumstances, 22 more women were killed in the name of “honor” in the Kurdistan Region in the first six months of 2022, according to the report. The organization called on the authorities to take immediate action to end femicide.
The organization also recalled that 40 women were killed and 62 more women died under suspicious circumstances in Sulaymaniyah in 2021.
