Hasakah- The participation of Hatem Abu Shaqra and Mohammed al-Jassim, known as Abu Amsha, leaders of Ahrar al-Sharqiya and the perpetrators of the massacre of Hevrin Khalaf, in the “Victory Conference” held in Damascus on January 29 by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) sparks anger across Syria. “The murderers cannot represent the Syrian people,” said Kurdish, Arab, Syriac and Armenian women.

 Silava Ehmed, a Kurdish woman, condemned the “Victory Conference” held in Damascus on January 29. “All those who attended the conference were murderers of women. If an investigation is launched into them, it will reveal that they are those who committed crimes against humanity such as murder, rape and looting in Syria. Murderers cannot be leaders but they are in the new interim government of Syria now. These people cannot represent the Syrian people. A conspiracy has been organized against women’s gains and revolution.”

 ‘How will the people on the terrorist list participate in the building of Syria?’

A Syria without women will be at risk, said Enahîd Qesebiyan, coordinating member of the Armenian Women’s Union, asking how the people on the “terrorist list” would participate in the construction of Syria.

“It seems that Syria faces a high risk. Women's organizations must be strengthened to build a free and democratic Syria against this mindset. Syria must be built by women’s participation, based on the system of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.”

‘The presence of Hevrin Khalaf’s murderer at the conference is inhumane’

Hevrin Khalaf made great efforts to ensure that women in Syria have a free life, said Sena Ebûd Hemûd, a displaced Arab woman from Serêkanîyê (Ras al-Ayn). “Martyr Hevrin was murdered because she struggled for women’s freedom. The conference in Damascus was held without women’s participation because they want to enslave women again. We do not accept this. The presence of Hevrin Khalaf’s murderer at the conference is inhumane.”

 ‘There were no women at the conference’

The conference held in Damascus in the name of “Victory” was not legitimate, said Stêl Mûrad, Spokesperson of the Syriac Women’s Union. “People on the terrorist list attended the conference. The attendance of murderers of women at the conference is a crime and illegal. In addition, there were no women at the conference and those who attended the conference cannot represent the Syrian people. The democratic system of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria is the best system to build a democratic Syria.”
