Kongra Star delegation presents the Rojava experience in Colombia
During a Latin America tour, Kongra Star’s Perîvan Khalid presented Rojava women’s experience in North and East Syria at an official meeting with Cauca local council members.
News Center – A delegation from Kongra Star that participated in the World Women’s Conference held in Bogotá visited members of the local council of a town in Cauca, southwest Colombia.
Today, Thursday, February 19, Perîvan Khalid, the representative of Kongra Star in Rojava, gave an extensive presentation on the women’s experience in Rojava and North and East Syria during an official meeting with members of the local council in a town in Cauca, as part of the delegation’s Latin America tour.
During the meeting, Khalid reviewed the history of women’s struggle in Rojava, focusing on their role in building a participatory democratic model based on gender equality and their contribution across political, social, and administrative fields.
She also addressed the mechanisms of women’s self-organization in the region and the challenges they have faced throughout the years of war and political transformations.
The meeting witnessed a broad discussion between the women’s delegation and the council members, as both sides exchanged views on methods of community administration, the organization of local committees, and ways to enhance women’s participation in decision-making positions.
Council members expressed particular interest in the Rojava experience in women’s empowerment, considering it a model that could be used to develop local structures in Cauca.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of maintaining communication and developing channels for joint cooperation to enable the exchange of expertise and strengthen relations between local communities in Rojava and Colombia.
The town visited by the delegation is known for adopting a local administrative model based on residents’ participation in managing their affairs through specialized committees such as the protection committee, the medical committee, the cultural committee, and others concerned with organizing community life.
This visit comes as part of a broader tour by the women’s delegation from Rojava in Latin America, which began with participation in the World Women’s Conference in the capital, Bogotá, whose activities concluded on February 15, and includes a series of meetings aimed at strengthening international communication and exchanging experiences in the field of women’s and community organizing.
