Qamishlo- The Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) will soon hold a “National Dialogue Conference” to ensure unity among Kurdish political parties in Syria, the KNK announced at a press conference in Qamishlo on Saturday.
NuJINHA interviewed Hêvî Mustafa, Deputy Co-chair of the KNK, about the conference.
‘The conference will be held in every part of Kurdistan’
‘The KNK held a conference on the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne. One of the decisions made at the conference was to hold a National Dialogue Conference in every part of Kurdistan. However, the recent developments in Kurdistan prevented us from holding this conference. The conference will soon be held in every part of Kurdistan.”
Preparatory committee
For a month, great efforts have been made in Rojava Kurdistan for the conference, Hêvî Mustafa said. “A preparatory committee was formed. The committee consists of representatives of political parties, civil society organizations, youth and women's movements, and the Council of Martyrs Families and intellectuals and influential and popular people in society.”
‘We must unite in solidarity’
Steps should be immediately taken since Assad's regime collapsed, Hêvî Mustafa emphasized. “The process that Syria is going through is very sensitive and important, and it also poses a serious threat to the Kurds. We also have a historic opportunity to resolve the Kurdish question in Syria. As Kurds, we must unite in solidarity, otherwise all our gains will be at risk. All Kurds should attend this conference to express their thoughts and opinions.”
‘Political parties should put aside their conflicts to work for people’
The KNK plans to hold the conference before the end of 2024. “Political parties should first put aside their conflicts and special interests to work according to the interests of the people,” Hêvî Mustafa told NuJINHA. “At the conference, we will put forward our principles and the democratic solution to the Kurdish question for unity among political parties and take the thoughts of our people into consideration.”
‘Protecting women's gains in new Syria is our red line’
Protecting the existence and gains of women in the new Syria is our red line, Hêvî Mustafa stressed, adding: “The revolution in Rojava Kurdistan is also called the women's revolution. Women will play an important role in rebuilding a new Syria by participating in the conference.”
The Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) was established on May 24, 1999, at its ordinary meeting held in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, with the participation of 700 delegates and friends of the Kurds.
