“Istanbul Convention is the red line for all of us”
Before the hearing relating to the Istanbul Convention, HDP Co-chair Pervin Buldan made a statement in front of the building of the Council of State and said, “The Istanbul Convention is the red line for all of us.”
News Center- The hearing of the lawsuit filed by HDP Women's Council and women's organizations regarding the annulment of the Istanbul Convention has started to be held by the 10th Chamber of the Council of State.
The hearing is followed by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-chair Pervin Buldan, HDP Women’s Council Spokesperson Ayşe Acar Başaran, HDP Group Deputy Chair Meral Danış Beştaş, HDP female MPs and members of the HDP Women’s Council. Before the hearing, HDP Co-chair Pervin Buldan made a statement to the press.
“We will defend the Istanbul Convention”
In the statement, Pervin Buldan said that they never accept the withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention by a man’s decision, “As we said before, the Istanbul Convention is not a convention that can be annulled by a man. We will never accept the withdrawal of such an important convention while thousands of women in Turkey are subjected to male violence, thousands of women are killed. We will continue to defend the Istanbul Convention.”
The demand of millions of women
Recalling that they, as HDP, applied to the Council of State, Pervin Buldan said, “The positive decision of the Council of State is not only our demand, but also the demand of millions of women living in this country and we are here to follow the hearing as the representatives of millions of women. We state once again that we will never accept this unlawfulness. There are grieving mothers here, the mothers, who lost their daughters due to male violence. We will follow this process together so that millions of mothers living in this country will not suffer from losing their daughters. We will do our best to ensure that millions of women follow this process and keep struggling. The Istanbul Convention is the red line for all of us and we will stand firm to protect our red line.”
