Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council orders to enforce Amnesty Law

Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council issued a statement on Thursday, ordering the judges in all cities to implement the General Amnesty Law.

Iraq- The Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq issued a written statement on Thursday, ordering the judges in all cities and districts to implement the General Amnesty Law.

According to the statement, the council discussed Law No. (2) of 2025, the second amendment to the General Amnesty Law No. (27) of 2016, as well as challenges facing the committees responsible for implementing the law.

The statement said that the council had ordered all judges in cities and districts of Iraq to implement the General Amnesty Law.

 On January 21, 2025, the Iraqi parliament approved three controversial laws; the General Amnesty Law, the Return of Property to Owners Law, and amendments to the Personal Status Law. On February 3, Iraq’s Federal Court temporarily suspended the implementation of the three laws.

On February 13, Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid ratified the laws. On February 18, the laws were published in the official gazette, paving the way for their implementation.
