Drought reduces agricultural areas in Morocco

Morocco will lose 20% of its agricultural areas due to drought.

News Center- Morocco has been suffering from violent drought for five years. Speaking at the House of Councillors, the upper house of the Parliament of Morocco, on Tuesday, Minister of Agriculture Mohamed Sadiki said that agricultural areas in Morocco decreased to 2.5 million hectares in summer and winter.

‘Cultivated agricultural area decreased by 31 percent’

Pointing out that the cultivated agricultural area during normal seasons is 4 million hectares, Mohamed Sadiki said, “We will lose 20 percent of the 2.5 million hectares of cultivated areas due to drought.” Cultivated agricultural areas decreased by 31 percent, compared to 2023, he added.
