Drawings from women on walls of Topkapi to mark 10 years of Istanbul Convention

10 years have passed since the Istanbul Convention was opened for signature in Istanbul. Women in Istanbul made drawings of the walls of Topkapi to mark 10 years of the convention. “Istanbul Convention is 10 Years Old”, “Istanbul Convention belongs to us, we don’t give up on it,” women wrote on the walls.

News Center - A group of women organized under the name “Enforce Istanbul Convention Campaign” made drawings on the walls of Topkapı to mark 10 years of the Istanbul Convention. The women wrote on the walls, “Istanbul Convention is 10 Years Old”, “Istanbul Convention belongs to us, we don’t give up on it.”

The Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, also known as the Istanbul Convention was opened for signature on May 11, 2011. Turkey was the first country to sign the convention. However, on March 20, 2021, a Presidential decree announced the country’s withdrawal from the convention. Women have been protesting the decision since the announcement. Last night, women protested the decision again to mark 10 years of the convention.
