Deniz Poyraz commemorated in Izmir
Deniz Poyraz was commemorated at her grave in Izmir on Tuesday on the fourth anniversary of her murder.

Izmir- Deniz Poyraz, who was murdered by Onur Gencer in the attack on the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) building in Izmir on June 17, 2021, was commemorated at her grave in Izmir on Tuesday.
The commemoration was attended by the family members of Deniz Poyraz, her friends, members of Peace Mothers’ Initiative, the Free Women’s Movement (Kurdish: Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA), the People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), DEM Party MPs Adalet Kaya and Burcugül Çubuk and representatives of political parties and NGOs.
After a minute's silence for those who have lost their lives while fighting for freedom and democracy, Peace Mother Müzeyyen Kortak made a speech. “Our martyrs are our honor and the crown of our heart,” she said. “We will follow their path as long as we are alive.
After the speech of Müzeyyen Kortak, DEM Party MP Adalet Kaya made a speech, stating that their wounds are still fresh although years have passed since the murder of Deniz Poyraz. The attack on the building of the HDP in Izmir was an attack “on peace, equality and the will to live together,” she said. “Deniz was the representative of millions of people. That attack was a political attack. Deniz was young and loved life, dreaming of an equal life. Deniz Poyraz is immortal.”

“Whenever I feel tired, I remember Deniz’s face,” said Deniz Poyraz’s mother Fehime Poyraz, drawing attention to the importance of the struggle for freedom, peace and democracy. “This struggle is the struggle of women and young people. No one can defeat us if we unite. Kurds always stand firm and fulfill their responsibilities despite everything.”
