Bahar Karakaş, Rabia Tekas, Zelal Bilgin sent to prison

Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activist Zelal Bilgin and Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality council members Bahar Karakaş Uluğ and Rabia Tekas have been sent to prison. The number of jailed women rises to 11.

News Center- On April 5, police conducted house raids in Diyarbakır and detained 26 women within the scope of an investigation opened by Diyarbakır Prosecutor’s Office. 16 women were released under judicial control, eight women were sent to prison. The detention period of Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activist Zelal Bilgin and Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality council members Bahar Karakaş Uluğ and Rabia Tekas were extended. Yesterday night, the three women were sent to the Criminal Court of Peace on Duty after being questioned at the police station. Uluğ, Tekas and Bilgin have been sent to Diyarbakır Women’s Closed Prison on charges of membership of a terrorist organization by the court. The number of jailed women rises to 11.

Names of women, who have been sent to prison, are as follows;

Çınar Municipality Co-mayor Necla Tamriş, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Diyarbakır Provincial Co-chair Seval Gülmez, Diyarbakır Women’s Academy member Figen Aras, Socialist Women's Assemblies (SKM) Central Executive Board member Satiye Ok, Leyla Akgül, Ayşen Kanuş, Nurşen Akbal, Şehriban Zuğurli, TJA activist Zelal Bilgin, Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality council members Bahar Karakaş Uluğ and Rabia Tekas. Peace Mother Nezahat Teke has been put under house arrest.
