Afghan women call on international community to take action against Taliban

On the occasion of International Women's Day, Afghan women have released a statement calling on the international community to take action against the Taliban.

News Center- The members of the Women’s Political Participation Network, an Afghan women’s network, have released a statement calling on the international community to take an immediate action against the Taliban, saying, “We are fed up with the oppression of the Taliban.”

In the statement, the network emphasized that while the International Women's Day is celebrated all around the world, Afghan women have been deprived of all their rights under the rule of the Taliban for more than 19 months and called on the international community to impose effective sanctions on the Taliban. “The silence of the international community is an approval for the anti-women practices of the Taliban,” the statement said.

 ‘Do not recognize the Taliban’

The statement also called on all countries that respect women’s rights and have signed international conventions protecting women’s rights not to recognize the Taliban. “European Union and the US should impose more sanctions against the Taliban.”
