Öcalan Calls for a New Phase Based on Brotherhood and a Lasting Peace Path

A DEM Party delegation met Abdullah Öcalan to discuss political developments and the peace process, emphasizing dialogue for a solution based on equality and coexistence.

News Center_A delegation from the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM party) traveled to imrali island yesterday, Monday, July 20, to hold a meeting with leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The DEM Party delegation issued a statement today, Tuesday, July 21, clarifying that it held an extended meeting with leader Abdullah Öcalan on imrali after a period of interruption.

The statement indicated that during the meeting, regional political developments, paths toward building a democratic society, the current stage of the peace process, and the required legal framework for this process were discussed.

The delegation noted that during the meeting, Leader  Öcalan affirmed his commitment to steps aligned with spirit of the February 27, 2025, call and to resolving the issue within a framework of based on brotherhood.

The delegation explained that leader Öcalan indicated that the current phase is approaching the transformation of the historic alliance between Kurds and Turks into a legal formula, as a bond that has remained steadfast through critical turning points in Anatolia. He emphasized that the reality that "if the Kurd is separated from the Turk, no Kurd remains, and if the Turk is separated from the Kurd, no Turk remains" necessitates building a shared life grounded in equality and legal reference.

The delegation stated that leader Abdullah Öcalan's call carries historical significance, affirming its determination to continue constructive dialogue with relevant parties, foremost among them the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, with the aim of advancing the political process toward tangible outcomes, and emphasizing its commitment to pursuing a lasting solution based on the principles of brotherhood that strengthens the path of peace .

According to the delegation, the leader's remarks during the meeting included:

The time has come to establish a legal framework that respects shared sensitivities, recognizing that paving this path is a historic opportunity. Let us abandon narrow simplifications that disregard the future and work together to build a shared life. Therefore, everyone must exert their utmost effort to initiate legal procedures, as outlined in the report prepared by the Committee on Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, for the complete elimination of conflict and weapons, and to open a new page .

The Kurdish-Turkish alliance is the cornerstone of Anatolia's shared future. Every step we take must be rooted in the culture of these lands. This alliance can be solidified with permanent legal guarantees through legal systems, and we can live together equally and freely in a democratic republic. History offers us an opportunity to build a shared life and to open a new chapter in equality and justice. I have full confidence that we will seize this opportunity together.
