100 people kidnapped in Syria’s coastal regions in 2 days

More than 100 people, including women, were kidnapped by armed groups in Syria’s coastal regions in the last 48 hours, according to local reports.

News Center- The 61-year-old Baathist regime collapsed when forces led by jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) entered Damascus on December 8, 2024. The formation of an interim government led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) has increased violence incidents in Syria, especially in Syria’s coastal region, causing the spread of hate speech and escalating violence against ethnic groups, especially against the Alawite community in Syria's coastal regions.

Women and children among the kidnapped people

According to local reports, more than 100 people were kidnapped by armed groups in Syria’s coastal regions in the last 48 hours and women and children are among the kidnapped people. Similar kidnapping incidents also occurred in the cities of Hama and Homs.

More than 1,500 people, mostly Alawites, have been killed in Syria’s coastal regions, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a Britain-based monitoring group. 42 people were killed for helping people or providing hiding places to them. SOHR documented unlawful arrest and detention, and enforced disappearance of more than 10,000 people in Syria’s coastal regions.
