A thousand families of Afrin’s displaced return to their city as part of the sixth batch

About a thousand families of Afrin’s displaced from Qamishlo, Amouda, and Derik headed to their city, within the framework of the January 29 agreement aimed at facilitating the return of residents to their areas after years of displacement.

News Center – The January 29 agreement opened the door for the return of thousands of displaced people to their original areas, establishing an organizational framework that facilitates the movement of families and rearranges their living conditions – a step considered one of the most prominent paths to community stability in the region.

At dawn today, Thursday, May 21, the areas of Qamishlo, Amouda, and Derik witnessed the movement of a new batch of displaced people from Afrin, comprising about a thousand families, on their way back to their city after years of displacement. This return comes within the framework of the January 29 agreement between the Autonomous Administration and the Syrian interim government, which stipulated facilitating the return of residents to their original areas.

The families completed their preparations over the past days before gathering at the Martyrs of March 12 Stadium in Qamishlo, after which the convoy set off toward Afrin. This batch is the sixth in the Jazira and Kobani regions, while new batches comprising thousands of displaced people are being prepared to return soon.

In recent weeks, several previous batches have arrived. The first batch from Kobani, which included about 600 families, arrived in Afrin on May 19. The Jazira region also saw the return of four other batches: 400 families on March 9, 200 families on April 4, and 800 families in the same month. Additionally, about a thousand families returned to Afrin on May 9.
