News Center- There are 2,535,533 disabled people in Turkey, according to reports given by the National Disability Health Information System published by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services. 1,109,566 of these people are women. Although the Ministry shares these figures, the estimated number of disabled people is higher due to the lack of an updated database and detailed studies.

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Şırnak MP Nuran İmir has submitted a parliamentary question about the health problems faced by the disabled women demanding to be answered by Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca.

In the parliamentary question, Nuran İmir draws attention to the problems of disabled women facing ongoing violence, discrimination, and violations and to de facto implementation of rights guaranteed by the Turkish Disability Act no. 5378 and international conventions. Nuran İmir emphasizes that disabled women are among the groups facing the most problems in society due to the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak.

The biggest problem is in the health sector

Stating that disabled women have faced many problems in every sphere of life, particularly in the health sector, Nuran İmir says, “They are not able to go to hospitals by their own means and hospitals have almost no suitable materials for people with disabilities.

The parliamentary question includes the following questions;

* Are you planning to actualize a system for disabled women to be able to access their basic needs and health services safely and easily?

* Do you have any project for disabled women during the Covid-19 pandemic? How many disabled women could get access to health services during the pandemic?

*Do you take any measures against attacks such as sexual abuse, harassment, and rape on disabled women?

* What is the rate of accessibility of women with disabilities to healthcare services during the pandemic?
