News Center- A group of Iranian mothers, who call themselves “Iranian Mothers”, has struggled for justice for their children killed by the Iranian state for years. They held a press statement to announce that they boycott the upcoming elections in the country. Many women, including Farideh Moghadam, Fatemeh Bonkdar, Shahla Entesari, Akram Osanloo, Thelma Avansian, Nahid Shirbisheh and Mehrangiz Kar, have signed the statement.
“We have no hope for elections”
In the statement, the mothers pointed out that the elections will not be free and fair elections and that they have taken to the streets many times to change the unfair elections but they have no hope for elections, “Hope can always open doors. We are together because we have hope but we have no hope that elections will be held in a democratic way.”
“They should pay a price for our children”
The mothers stated in the statement that the votes have been stolen, “We have no expectation from the elections to be held in this land where our children were killed. Because we have still faced a regime that doesn’t pay a price for killing our children. How can Iran hold the elections while it cannot control the coronavirus crisis? As mothers lost their children, we don’t want other children to be killed. They gave their word and they should keep their word. We have always waited patiently but we have always faced a tragedy.”
“Until we have free and fair elections…”
The mothers said in the statement that they have protested the government, “We don’t believe that such elections will lead to a positive change. This authoritarian structure will never change but be worse. We will never be a candidate nor support any candidates until we have free and fair elections.”
