Sulaymaniyah - The operations launched by Turkey on April 24 in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region still continue. As local people keep protesting the Turkish attacks, the civic activists use all means to stop the war. Civic activist Kelsum Hesên claims that wars are being deepened to enrich the arms industry, pharmaceutical companies, and several families.

“They want to resurrect the Ottoman mentality”

Kelsum Hesên underlined that the Kurdistan territory has been exploited not only by Turkey but also by Iran for many years, and that this is an unacceptable approach. Not only Turkey but also Iran has tried to occupy our lands for years. The conflict between Safavi-Ottoman actually continues. We shouldn't think of the attacks of Turkey as cross-border operations. These attacks have been planned for more areas. Mosul and even Kirkuk may be attacked at any moment,” Kelsum Hesên said.

“They deepen the war for arms and drug sales”

Stating that the Middle Eastern countries continue to survive by the arms industry and that the citizens become poorer due to the ongoing conflicts, Kelsum Hesên said, “The conflicts cause forcible displacement and the people have to live in cities far away from their lands without producing agricultural products. This situation will cause a great danger in the future. The states deepen the war for arms and drug sales.”

The people have to act together, regardless of their political views, in order to stop the wars in the Kurdistan Region and to protect the territorial integrity of Iraq, Kelsum Hesên said, “We need a common stance.”
