Türkiye: Four journalists stand trial over terrorism charges
Journalists Semra Turan, Tolga Güney, Delal Akyüz and Melike Aydın stood trial on Monday over terrorism charges. Journalist Semra Turan has been acquitted while the other journalists face jail sentences.

News Center- Mesopotamia Agency (MA) reporters Semra Turan, Tolga Güney and Delal Akyüz, JINNEWS reporter Melike Aydın stood trial on Monday over terrorism charges for their journalistic activities.
The hearing of the trials against the journalists was held at the Izmir 13th High Criminal Court. Journalist Semra Turan did not attend the hearing while her lawyer was present.
Her lawyer demanded the acquittal of Semra Turan, stating that witness statements and the social media posts were insufficient to justify the accusation against Semra Turan. The court ruled the acquittal of Semra Turan
Three journalists face jail sentence
After the hearing of the trial against Semra Turan, journalists Melike Aydın and Tolga Güney stood trial. The prosecutor demanded a jail sentence against the journalists on charges of “membership in an illegal organization”.
The court postponed the hearing to July 18, 2025 after the lawyers of the journalists requested an additional time for preparing a defense.
The hearing of the trial against journalist Delal Akyüz was also held at the Izmir 13th High Criminal Court on Monday. The journalist denied all the accusations against her. However, the prosecutor demanded a jail sentence against her on charges of “membership in an illegal organization.”
The court postponed the hearing to July 18, 2025 after the lawyer of Delal Akyüz demanded an additional time for preparing a defense.
