Parents of Berkin Elvan sentenced to prison
Parents of Berkin Elvan, a 15-year-old boy who was killed by police in Istanbul during the Gezi Park protests in 2013, have been sentenced to prison on charges of “Insulting the President”.
News Center- Gülsüm Elvan and Sami Elvan, whose son Berkin Elvan was killed by a tear gas canister fired by a police officer in Istanbul during the Gezi Park protests in 2013, stood trial on Wednesday on charges of “Insulting the President”.
The court sentenced Sami Elvan (father of Berkin Elvan) to one year and two months in prison and Gülsüm Elvan (mother of Berkin Elvan) to 11 months and 20 days in prison, deferring the announcement of the verdict.
