Lawyers and human rights organizations criticize the Houthi court to subject Intisar al-Hammadi to an unfair trial. “Houthi authorities are carrying out an unfair trial of a Yemeni actress and model,” said the Human Rights Watch in a statement issued on June 30. Intisar al-Hammadi was interrogated while blindfolded, physically and verbally abused, subjected to racist insults, and forced to “confess” to several offenses, including drug possession and prostitution, said Amnesty International in the statement issued a statement about the unfair trial against Intisar al-Hammadi in May.

At least 300 women behind bars in Yemen

According to the reports issued by international and local organizations, 300 women, including employees of rights organizations and human rights defenders, have been held in prison by the Houthi authorities. Detained women were reportedly subjected to rape and torture in prison.

The UNFPA announced in its 2020 report that 2.6 million women and girls were at risk of gender-based violence.
