Her husband sentenced to 1,107 years in prison: “No one has been received such prison sentence in the world”
Kenan Çiçek, who was detained and arrested on charges of being responsible for the car bomb explosion that killed 15 soldiers in Kayseri, was sentenced to a total of 1,107 years in prison. His wife Münevver Cesur Çiçek pointed out that she and her husband were in Diyarbakır on the day the car bomb explosion took place in Kayseri. “My two children grow up without their father,” she said.

Amed- On December 17, 2016, a car bomb exploded in Kayseri province and killed 15 soldiers. On December 20, 2016, Kenan Çiçek was arrested in Diyarbakır and he was sentenced to a total of 1,107 years in prison on charges of “being planner of the attack” in 2019.
Father of two, Kenan Çiçek was sentenced to a total of 1,107 years in prison; to life imprisonment on charges of “disrupting the unity of the state”, to aggravated life imprisonment for 15 times on charges of “murder in the first degree”, to 20 years in prison for 54 times on charges of “attempted murder”, to nine years in prison for “being a member of a terrorist organization” and to 18 years in prison for “carrying dangerous materials”.
“No one has been received to such prison sentence in the world”
Münevver Cesur Çiçek, the wife of Kenan Çiçek, who has been held in the Tekirdağ Closed Prison, calls for justice. Stating that her husband has been held in prison although he is innocent, she said, “No one has been received such prison sentence in the world.”
He was tortured for 23 days
The house of Kenan Çiçek was raided in December 2016. He was held in custody for 23 days before being sent to prison. “We faced insults by police when our house was raided. My oldest daughter still suffers from trauma. My husband was forced to confess. He was tortured for 23 days. He was battered, insulted and he was subjected to electrical torture. He was threatened to be killed by hanging him down from the 5th floor. After 23 days of torture, my husband had to confess although he is innocent. Two hearings were held and my husband couldn’t defend himself because he wasn’t taken to the court,” Münevver Cesur Çiçek told us.
“My children grow up without their father”
“My husband has been held in prison for a crime he didn’t commit,” Münevver Cesur Çiçek said, “If one day we have peace, everything will be revealed. We face maltreatment and insults whenever we visit him in the prison. He was first held in the Nevşehir Prison. Then, he was transferred to Kırıkkale Prison and to Tekirdağ Closed Prison. My children grow up without their father. They always ask me when their father will return home. They want their father to be with them.”
“We still have hope”
Pointing out that her husband was sentenced to prison without any evidence, Münevver Cesur Çiçek said, “This is not justice. A person has no chance of serving such a prison sentence. I stand by my husband and I am proud of him. I know he didn’t commit this crime. We will resist until we put an end to these policies against us.”
