Women collecting grape leaves to make stuffed grape leaves
Women living in the Eskiocak village of Amed’s Silvan district have begun to collect grape leaves to make stuffed grape leaves. Women pick grapes up in late summer.

Amed – Women living in the Eskiocak village of Amed’s Silvan district have begun to pick grape leaves up to make stuffed grape leaves. Women, who pick grapes up during the harvest season in late summer, collect grape leaves in spring. After they keep grape leaves in water for a while, they make delicious stuffed grape leaves.
“We collect leaves without using any tools”
Seyran Beyazıt told us that they collect grape leaves in spring before the harvest season of grapes, “We come to vineyards to collect grape leaves in spring. All women living in the village gather to collect grape leaves together. We collect leave without using any tools. We come to vineyards to pick grapes up in late summer.”
“People living in cities buy grape leaves”
Seyran Beyazıt stated that people living in cities buy grape leaves but they make stuffed grape leaves with organic grape leaves. “After collecting the leaves, we leave them in salty water for a while. Then, we put them in jars and close them. We don’t open them for a while. We make stuffed grape leaves. The people living in cities buy grape leaves from supermarkets but we collect organic leaves after walking 10 minutes. They are healthy because they are organic. I use these leaves for as long as I can remember to make stuffed grape leaves. Our children also like them.”
