Sinê (Sanandaj)- Sinê is one of the regions of Iran and Rojhelat known for their delicious strawberries. According to official statistics, the estimated total amount of strawberries produced in Iran is 96,000 tons and 62,500 tons of this amount is produced in the city of Sinê and its surroundings. For this reason, strawberries are the source of income for almost all people living in this region. About 13,000 families living in the city and its surroundings make a livelihood from strawberries.

As the strawberry harvest time begins in the region, the work shift of the women living in the Jawrud, Huye, Serhuye, Şiyan, Bîsaran, Nacî and Aveheng villages of Sinê begins.

Women work in strawberry gardens

As the NuJINHA team, we visited the village of Huye to show you the colorful strawberry gardens in the village. There are many strawberry gardens in the village. We met Huye Mehemed Rustem Rehmî, owner of a garden and farmer of strawberries, while walking around the gardens. She told us how they plant, grow and harvest strawberries.

“There is no smell of the strawberries grown in greenhouses”

Mehemed Rustem Rehmi Xetîce Qurbanî began to work harder in her garden to earn a living for her family after the death of her husband. “Actually women do most of the things in these gardens. They plant, grow and harvest the strawberries. We do everything. There is a big difference between strawberries grown in gardens and those grown in greenhouses. The biggest difference is that there is no smell of the strawberries grown in greenhouses. The smell of the strawberries grown in gardens is very special.”

“We make a living through agriculture

Sediya Rustem works with Mehemed Rustem Rehmi Xetîce Qurbanî in the garden. She told us that the quantity of this year's strawberry harvest is more than in previous years. “We make a living through agriculture. For this reason, the quantity of products affects us. The strawberries grown in this region are more delicious,” she told us.
