Somaieh Saadatian works as ambulance driver in Sanandaj for 18 years

Somaieh Saadatian is only one of women trying to break gender stereotypes. She has worked as an ambulance driver in the city Sanandaj for 18 years. Now, she teaches this profession to other women.

Sanandaj – Generally, men claim that women drivers are worse than men drivers; however, they are wrong. Women are good at both driving and saving lives. In order to see how women are good at driving, societies must first break gender stereotypes.

Somaieh Saadatian, who has worked as an ambulance driver in Sanandaj for 18 years, is one of the women trying to break gender stereotypes. Iranian women, who are tried to be pulled back from all spheres of life by the regime in Iran having a long-standing culture, try to come to the fore with their courage at every opportunity.

After working as an ambulance driver for 18 years, she now teaches this profession to other women. Actually, she welcomes every woman who wants to learn how to drive. That is why she is known as one of the best “driving instructor” in the city.

They learn a profession and gain self-confidence

Somaieh Saadatian does not care about the titles given to her by people around her. She thinks women should stand on their own feet and have strong will.

“I think all women should learn how to drive. When they learn how to drive, they will also learn a profession and gain self-confidence. My aim is to give an opportunity to women so that they can stand on their own feet and have self-confidence,” she says.

“Don't be afraid and work hard”

Somaieh Saadatian she works freelance to teach how to drive and sometimes work coordinately with educational institutions and schools. She has received many awards from many organizations, including the governorship of Sanandaj. “I want to keep working as an ambulance driver because I feel happy when I save lives. Women should not be afraid; they should work hard to realize their dreams.”
