108 women workers lost their lives in 2022, report says
In Turkey, 1,843 workers, including 108 women workers, lost their lives at their workplaces in 2022, according to the report released by the Laborer Health and Occupational Safety Assembly (İSİG).
News Center- The Laborer Health and Occupational Safety Assembly (İSİG) has released its 2022 report. In Turkey, 1,843 workers, including 108 women workers and 37 child workers, lost their lives at their workplaces in 2022, according to the report.
“At least 1,843 workers, every day ‘at least five workers, lost their lives at their workplaces. 20 years have passed since the AKP (Justice and Development Party) came to power. At that time, neoliberal anti-worker policies were put into practice for 'Great Turkey', 'New Turkey', 'Domestic and National Economy'. While the bosses of big companies such as MUSIAD, TUSIAD, TİSK etc. began to smile, the trade and workers’ unions and movements were weakened; workers’ right to strike were banned and their wages melted,” the report said.
The figures in the report are as follows:
“*In 2022, at least 55 motorcycle couriers lost their lives.
• In 2022, 37 children, 27 of whom were under 14 years old, lost their lives.
• In 2022, at least 108 women workers lost their lives.
• 99 workers aged 65 years and older lost their lives.
• In 2022, 90 refugees lost their lives at their workplaces. 43% of the refugees, who lost their lives at their workplaces were Syrian, 22% were Afghan.”
