Benghazi- Autism is a developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life, and is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the normal functioning of the brain, affecting development in the areas of social interaction and communication skills. The diagnosis of the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at the earliest possible age is important in order to optimize outcomes for children with ASD. The exact cause of ASD is unknown and researchers say it is largely caused by genetics. Hind Al-Bashari, the director of the Tawasul Center for Autism, founded the center three years ago to rehabilitate the children with autism spectrum disorders and integrate them into society.

“200 people have been rehabilitated”

Stating that they have rehabilitated 200 people with ASD since they founded the center, Hind Al-Bashari said, “The reason for the increase in such centers in recent years is the increase in awareness-raising activities for ASD. ASD was first diagnosed correctly 20 years ago. As the center, we provide individual training to children. Specialists or educators hold these training sessions to rehabilitate the children with ASD. “

Underlining that they provide education to children according to their characteristics and disorders, Hind Al-Bashari said, “I try to learn different languages in order to read more reports released on ASD.  One out of every four boys and girls in the world is diagnosed with ASD and they receive treatments. We first send the children brought to the center to doctors. After they are diagnosed with ASD, we determine the rehabilitation program for each child.”
