Kobanê – In the interview with NuJINHA, Sozdar Şêxo, co-chair of the Euphrates Region Internal Affairs Council, commented about the ongoing Turkish attacks on North and East Syria. She told us that the ongoing Turkish attacks pose a threat to the achievements that women have gained by waging a great struggle.
Emphasizing that the Turkish state will not achieve its goal by carrying out attacks, Sozdar Şêxo said, “The occupying Turkish state will not be able to destroy the revolution by attacking North and East Syria. The Turkish state has threatened the region for a long time. They often release statements saying they would attack our region. The Turkish state has intensified its attacks by violating all international agreements and conventions. The explosion in Istanbul was planned to attack our region.”
‘Women’s achievements are targeted’
Underlining that the attacks target the women’s revolution, Sozdar Şêxo said, “The Turkish state especially targets women in its attacks because women led the revolution in Rojava to gain their freedom and rights. The women in the region have waged a great struggle in order to protect the achievements of the revolution. The AKP government has carried out attacks on North and East Syria to increase its votes in the upcoming general elections.”
‘Close the airspace’
Expressing that they, as the Autonomous Administration, ask the people not to leave their homes and homeland, Sozdar Şêxo said, “Our people will protect the achievements of the revolution. We will not give up on our principles. Our stance is obvious since the beginning. Women’s Defense Units has announced that they are ready to fight if a military operation is launched in the region. We have demanded the airspace of NE Syria be closed. We are ready for a ground operation to be launched by the Turkish state.”
‘We have experiences so we will succeed’
Emphasizing that women will protect their region, Sozdar Şêxo concluded her speech by saying, “We will not leave our region to the occupying Turkish state. We believe in our fighters. We fought ISIS and other armed factions. We are stronger than before because we have experiences so we will succeed.”
