Gaza- The Culture and Free Thought Association (CFTA) has started a project called “Safe Spaces for Women” in the Gaza Strip to protect, empower women and girls and encourage their social participation.

The project coordinator Erub El-Saqa spoke to NuJINHA about the project that started at the beginning of June. “This project has been developed for women and girls who are victims of violence to provide psychological support to them,” she told us.

Speaking about the aims of the project, she told us that the main aim of the project is to protect women and girls by creating safe spaces.

“The aims of the project are to protect and empower women and girls and encourage their social participation, to support them in order to develop their skills such as communication, management and self-control skills. Safe spaces are a must to protect women. Women with disabilities need to have easy access to a safe space.”

Emphasizing the role of women in society, she said, “The project aims to protect women from violence by providing safe spaces for them. The project also supports women to reveal their power and make decisions about themselves.”

Pointing to the challenges faced by women with disabilities, she said, “The women with disabilities face many challenges because their families do not allow them to act freely. A safe space will allow them to act freely and make decisions about their lives.”
