Benghazi – Young women and children joining a Robotics Workshop held in Libya work hard to develop robot technology in Libya. Girls aged 12-19 formed a team called “Super Team” to realize their dream. 18-year-old Aisha Omar is one of the members of the team. “I have been a member of this team for a year. I joined the team voluntarily because technology, robotics, and manufacturing skills are invisible. I contacted the members of the team on their Facebook page and became a member of the team,” Aisha Omar told us.
“We work together to improve ourselves”
Stating that the team consists of girls aged 12-19, Aisha Omar said, “We try to arrange our time and meet twice a week to work on our projects. We work together to improve ourselves because we haven’t received any support since June. We got in touch with a Jordanian robotics trainer and he has supported us. But the team was formed by the members of the team.”
Aisha Omar told us that their team is one of the teams of the Liputex Organization for Robotics and Technological Sciences and the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) based in the USA and their team has international accreditation from this organization under serial number 18424. “This year, we have worked on the robot crane mechanism. We have produced many robots until now. We have also held many seminars and training. Our aim is not to make money but to spread this culture in Libya. Libya should get involved in international robotic technology,” she said.
“My interest in robots encouraged me to take part in this team”
14-year-old Manasik Abd al-Salam told us how her journey with robots started as follows: “Although technology and robotics are not given importance in Libya, I am interested in producing robots. My interest in robots actually encouraged me to take part in this team. After searching on the internet, I realized that there is a team called Super Team in Benghazi. After thinking for a week, I decided to join them. I have worked with them since then. Before, I didn’t know anything about robotics. But now I improve myself. I haven't decided yet, but I will most likely continue my education in this field.”
