Kongra Star organizes course for men to change patriarchal mentality

Afrin Region Kongra Star organized a course for men in order to change the patriarchal mentality.

Shahba- Afrin Region Kongra Star organized an educational course for men in order to change the patriarchal mentality in the region. The course started on June 20 lasted for 17 days with the participation of 19 men. The aim of the course was to create changes in society, raise awareness of men about the reality of women’s history in order to save women from slavery and oppression and build a common life through education.

The course consisted of several sessions titled women’s history, Jineology (the science of women), free-equal life, the ideology of women’s liberation, and the change of the patriarchal mentality. The information about Kongra Star was also given to men taking the course. Last year, Kongra Star decided to organize courses for men during its congress.

“The aim is to change the patriarchal mentality”

Leyla Îbiş, a member of the Afrin Region Kongra Star, spoke to NuJINHA about the course. “Our academy is known as Rojhat. We started our educational program under the name of Martyr Ferhad Dêrik. The first course of the educational program started on June 20 and it lasted for 17 days. The aim of our educational program is to change the patriarchal mentality. During our last congress, we decided to start an educational program for men,” she told us.

They will practice what they have learned

Mihemed Elî, Co-chair of the commune in the Ehdas district of Shahba, is one of the men participating in the course. Stating that they did not know anything about women’s history before the course, he said, “Now, we know many things about women’s history and struggle. We will practice what we have learned to build a free-equal life.”

All men should participate in the educational program

Mistefa Tarî, Co-chair of the commune in the Tilsûsîn village of Ehdas district, also participated in the educational program. Speaking about the course, he said, “After doing physical exercise, we learned many things about how to build an equal life. During the educational program, we cooked for ourselves and read books. It was a good experience. All men should participate in the educational program.”
