Gülistan Doku missing for 521 days: Where is Gülistan Doku?
A university student has been missing for 521 days in Dersim. Although the authorities tried to cover up the incident, Gülistan Doku’s family and NGOs keep asking, “Where is Gülistan Doku?”
News Center- Gülistan Doku, a student at Munzur University in Dersim province, has been missing since January 5, 2020. Although 521 days have passed since Gülistan's missing, no progress has been made in the investigation launched by the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Her family and NGOs keep asking “Where is Gülistan Doku?” NGOs and Gülistan Doku’s family claimed that Gülistan Doku was killed and they demanded the investigation should be carried out in this direction; however, the prosecutor and the representatives of official institutes focused on the suicide.
Only statement of Zaynal Abarakov was taken
The only suspect Zaynal Abarakov was only asked for his statement during that period. The prosecutor's office focused the investigation on the possibility of "suicide" and carried out a perception operation. After Gülistan Doku was reported missing, the first search efforts began on January 7 in the Uzunçayır Dam Lake, near which she was last seen but it was halted on July 6. The second search began on August 7 and halted on August 18. The third search began on October 15 and halted on November 23, 2020.
No promise was kept
The family of Gülistan Doku keeps asking where Gülistan is. They met with Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdoğan, Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, governor, chief prosecutor, and representatives of other official institutions. Although it was promised that Gülistan would be found, no promise was kept.
