Shahba - Displaced women of Afrin, who live in Shahba face more difficulties in winter. They say that the siege imposed by the Syrian regime on the city deprives the people of their basic needs such as medicine, gas, electricity and even drinking water.

They face many difficulties

Rabia Şeyho, one of the displaced women of Afrin who live in Shahba, told NuJINHA that they couldn’t find gas cylinders to cook. “There are no gas cylinders. We use plastic materials or hay to cook. We have to wash clothes in cold water in winter. We face great difficulties in doing such simple and daily housework,” said Rabia Şeyho, who demands the Turkish state leave Afrin. “We want to return to our hometown. There is no difference between the inhuman practices carried out by the Turkish state in Afrin and the practices of the Syrian regime against the displaced people of Afrin in Shehba.”

‘Our tents do not protect us from cold in winter and hot weather in summer’

Mother of four, Roshin Muhammed spoke about the difficulties faced by them due to the siege imposed by the Syrian regime. “Living in IDPs camps is very difficult. Our tents do not protect us from cold in winter and hot weather in summer. My children freeze in winter. We have many difficulties. My children usually get sick. Women have to shoulder all burdens. The siege imposed on Shahba badly affects us.”

‘The use of plastics poses threat’

Cihan Ahmed told us that the use of plastics in camps poses threat to human health and environment. “The siege imposed by the Syrian regime on Shahba prevents people from meeting their basic needs,” she said.

Fatima Abdo criticized the inhuman policy and siege of the Syrian regime, which supports the Turkish state against the displaced people in Afrin, in the region.
