Baghdad – The project launched by the Anbar Women’s Association aims to redesign the place of women in society. One of the most important issues for the association is to minimize the effects of tribes in the region. The officials of the ministries come together with the representatives of Baghdad and other provinces within the scope of the women's empowerment program to draw attention to the reality of the women's empowerment program in society. Anbar province is known for its patriarchal tribes. But recently, women have worked to minimize the effects of these tribes in the province. Dr. Widian Muhammad, the head of Anbar Women’s Association’s Empowering Women’s Department, told us the program aims to support women to have a place in society.

90% of women make their own decision

The ministries have held workshops and courses for women in Anbar and many cities of Iraq within the scope of the women's empowerment program. Speaking on women’s participation in these workshops and courses, Dr. Widian Muhammad said, “the most important step is to create a society that gives importance to women's views in order to raise women's awareness about receiving education.”

“Changing all women is impossible,” she said, adding, “but 90% of women are now make their own decisions for their future.”

The effects of tribes decrease

Anbar Women’s Association was founded in 2019 in Anfar province and it has now 2.500 members. “Many women work for our association. One of our most important projects is to eliminate blackmail faced by women and girls. We also spoke to government officials about this issue. We have also carried out projects about the education of girls,” Dr. Widian Muhammad said. The association also monitors the economic situation of women, particularly widowed and divorced women. “We wanted to start a business to provide employment for women. We started the business with the support of the local government.”

Dr. Widian Muhammad reported that the effects of tribes in the province have decreased by 70%.
