Women fight gender-based violence through art
Women displayed their paintings at the exhibition held in Sulaymaniyah as part of the 16-day activism against gender-based violence.
Sulaymaniyah - The Hana-Kurd Organization, a non-governmental organization in the Kurdistan Region, held an exhibition in Sulaymaniyah as part of the 16-day activism against gender-based violence. The artworks of many young women artists from many cities of the Kurdistan Region were displayed at the exhibition.
Xelat Huseyn, one of the women artists displaying her paintings at the exhibition, spoke to NuJINHA about the exhibition. “Everyone expresses their reaction in different ways and methods. I wanted to express my reaction to violence against women by painting. In my paintings, I wanted to reflect that I feel the sufferings of women,” she told NuJINHA.
At the exhibition, 70 paintings were displayed. Emel Heme Salih, another young artist displaying her paintings at the exhibition, said, “More awareness-raising activities and events must be held to eliminate violence against women. I tried to raise awareness about violence against women in my paintings.”
The women visiting the exhibition wrote their thoughts and feelings on an orange banner hung on a wall.
