She turns wood boards into paintings
As a Fine Arts student, Şilan Akbudak paints on wood boards and turns these boards into paintings. Apart from painting, she also creates sculptures using wood chips. Şilan Akbudak has many projects to carry out in the fine arts.

Amed – Being a Fine Arts student, Şilan Akbudak has pursued her art by painting on wood boards at “Dar û Pel” workshop located in the Sur district of Amed (Diyarbakır). After taking the wood boards from carpenters, she begins to paint on the boards. She also uses canvas and creates sculptures using wood chips. Şilan now is 20 years old and her interest in painting started when she was a child. She is a student and earns a living by painting. Şilan’s goal is to develop herself in fine arts and to open her own workshop.
“Variety increases in my paintings”
Şilan told us how she paints in the following words, “Nowadays, I have worked at a workshop. I have made paintings on wood using glue and ink. I also paint on canvas. First, we draw pictures and put these pictures on wood boards using glue. People did not understand much when they first saw them but then the variety in my paintings increases. But the printing technique on wood attracts more attention. People like them very much.”
“I create sculptures using wood chips”
Şilan has already begun to sell her paintings even if she is new to this job, “Apart from painting, I also create sculptures using wood chips. I give shape to the wood chips and then I glue them. Actually, I am new to this job. But I want to improve myself in all areas of this business. I have already begun to sell my paintings on wood boards. My interest in this began when I was a child. I started doing this job as a hobby but now I earn a living by doing it.”
“My goal is to improve myself in sculpture and ceramics”
Şilan wants to produce instead of being a teacher, “I will continue to work on this field and I have bigger goals. Nowadays, I have worked at a workshop but I want to open my own workshop in the future. Until then, I will do my best. I don’t want to be a teacher but I want to produce more beautiful works.” Şilan said that her goal is to improve herself in the field of sculpture and ceramics.
