Qamishlo- 22-year-old Robîn Omer lives in the city of Qamishlo, northern Syria. She creates different artworks by using nails, wooden boards and thread. Her interest in painting started when she was a child; she started painting eight years ago.

 She learns how to make string art online

About a month ago, she discovered string art online. After watching videos, she began to craft with nails and thread. “My aim was not to waste my time but to learn this interesting art. Until now, I have made five string art projects. First, I prepare the basis; I choose a wooden board. Then, I draw a pattern on the wooden board using nails. I weave thread around the nails.”

 Robîn Omer receives support from her family and friends to improve herself in this art; however, she faces difficulties in finding good quality thread. “I made my first string art project using a normal thread; however, I did not get what I wanted. I used fish thread to make my second project. Fish thread is better than normal thread and its color is bright. However, fish thread is expensive,” said Robîn Omer, who supports her family by selling her artworks.

 ‘I want everyone to see my artworks’

Robîn Omer works very hard to improve herself in this art. She also makes pencil drawings and oil paintings.“I want everyone to see my artworks. I am the first person who makes string art in Qamishlo. I want to improve myself and teach this art to other people. Women should follow their dreams. They should not care what other people say.”
