Hîlala Zêrîn preserves Kurdish culture against assimilation

Condemning the massacre that took place at the Ahmet Kaya Kurdish Cultural Center in Paris, the members and executives of the Afrin Region Hîlala Zêrîn Cultural Movement stated that they would preserve their culture against assimilation.

Shahba- On December 23, 2022, a gun attack was carried out against the Ahmet Kaya Kurdish Cultural Center in Paris. The Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council Member Emine Kara (Nom de guerre: Evîn Goyi), Kurdish singer Mîr Perwer (Mehmet Şirin Aydın) and Abdurrahman Kızıl lost their lives in the massacre. The members and executives of the Afrin Region Hîlala Zêrîn Cultural Movement spoke to NuJINHA about the second massacre that took place in Paris.

‘We must preserve our culture against fascism’

Guneh Mustafa, one of the executives of the Afrin Region Hîlala Zêrîn Cultural Movement began her speech by condemning the massacre. “This is not the first and will not the last massacre. The enemy always tried to destroy the Kurdish culture. The aim of the gun attack on the Kurdish cultural center in Paris shows their aim. Culture represents societies. For this reason, the enemy always targets our culture, our artists and musicians in order to prevent the Kurdish culture from being known all around the world. As women artists, we must join our hands to preserve our culture against fascism. We will preserve our culture and pass it down from generation to generation. As culture carriers, we will develop our artistic works to fight the occupation and protect our culture inherited from our elders,” Guneh Mustafa told us.

‘Kurdish songs will echo around the world’

Viyan Xelîl, one of the members of the Afrin Region Hîlala Zêrîn Cultural Movement, also condemned the massacre that took place in Paris on December 23, 2022 and added, “We strongly condemn such attacks. We will not allow the enemy to destroy our culture by preserving our culture. As women artists, we will be our culture carriers by fighting genocidal and assimilation policies. We will always preserve our culture with our folk songs and art. Kurdish songs will echo around the world.”
