Gûlçîn Xûlamweysî turns her love of nature into art in Hawreman

Gûlçîn Xûlamweysî, who turns her love of nature into art in Hawreman, provides job opportunities for many women in Hawreman by making wooden baskets.

Sanandaj - Women of Hawreman/Uramanat combine their love of nature with their skills and make wooden products. Gûlçîn Xûlamweysî is one of these women. “I did not know how to make wooden baskets. One day, I bought a wooden basket. I first broke it and then remade it to learn how to make wooden baskets. Now, I earn a living by making wooden baskets. Each job has its own difficulties. My husband supported me to succeed in this art and has helped me many times,” she told NuJINHA.

She has provided job opportunities for many women

After being professional in making wooden baskets, Gûlçîn Xûlamweysî opened a workshop to support women in order to earn a living. “Now, 70-80 women work with me. I go to villages and teach women how to make wooden baskets. I am very happy to be able to provide job opportunities for women. I also taught my son how to make wooden baskets. We make wooden baskets together,” she told us.

She participates in art exhibitions

Indicating that she also participates in art exhibitions, Gûlçîn Xûlamweysî said, “We participate in all art exhibitions because our art is a unique art. We make wooden baskets from many trees; some of them are 70 years old. For this reason, our wooden baskets smell very good. These baskets get even more beautiful every time they are washed. We harvest bark from downed trees for baskets from autumn to spring.”

“I want to teach how to make wooden baskets to many women”

Speaking about her next plans and projects, Gûlçîn Xûlamweysî said that she wants to start a business and teach many women how to make wooden baskets. “I do not need money. I do this business in order to support women so that they can stand on their own feet,” she said.
