Zeyneb Xelil: International women’s organizations should go to Afrin

Zeyneb Xelil calls on international women’s organizations to go to Afrin in order to monitor and document the inhuman practices against women in the occupied Afrin by Turkish forces and Turkish-backed factions.

Shahba- The Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions occupied Afrin on March 18, 2018 after 58-day resistance of the people of Afrin. Since then, women and children have been subjected to many rights violations and crimes against humanity.

‘Women are targeted’

In an interview with NuJINHA, Zeyneb Xelil, member of the Sara Organization to Combat Violence against Women, pointed to the crimes committed against women and children in Afrin. “The Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions first targeted women after they occupied Afrin. Women of Afrin are targeted by methods such as killing, kidnapping and torture,” she said.

Call on international women’s organizations

 Zeyneb Xelil called on international women’s organizations to go to Afrin. “They should monitor and document the crimes against women in Afrin. As Sara Organization, we make efforts to learn more about the situation of women in Afrin, to help them and protect them against inhuman practices.”

‘We will always fight gender-based violence’

Têkoşîn Mihemed, member of the Sara Organization, condemned rights violations committed against women of Afrin by the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions.

“We will always fight gender-based violence. In Afrin, women are subjected to torture and rights violations every day. The aim of the occupation is to destroy the role of Kurdish women and keep them under control. As women, we will never bow to the occupation policies and slavery. We are determined to end the occupation.”
