Gaza- The Palestinian Social Media Club has launched an online campaign under the slogan of “Your Safety is Her Safety” in partnership with the Palestinian Institute for Communication & Development (PICD) as part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign. The campaign aims to draw attention to online violence against women, particularly blackmailing.

“Police don’t do their part”

“Violence is an inhumane practice,” Psychologist Rewan Geyada said that women are subjected to all forms of violence. “Since the outbreak of Covid-19, online violence against children and women has intensified. Parents should warn their children against online violence. The children should be also informed about online violence at schools. Recently, many children and women have applied us because of online blackmail faced by them. They first reported online blackmail to police but unfortunately, police don’t do their part,” Rewan Geyada told us.

“The campaign aims is to reduce online violence”

Hiba Al-Abadila, a member of the Social Media Club, spoke to our news agency about their campaign. “We have launched the online campaign under the slogan of “Your Safety is Her Safety” as part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence campaign. The campaign aims to reduce online violence against women and children,” she said.

“Online violence has intensified”

“All problems faced by women are important problems. We have launched this campaign to draw attention to the online violence against women and girls, such as online harassment, threats, and blackmail. Unfortunately, Online violence against women and girls has intensified particularly since the outbreak of Covid-19,” said Riham Ebu Hese, another member of the Social Media Club.

Riham Ebu Hese called on the international and Palestinian communities to protect women. “Don’t be a party to this crime. Remaining silent means you are a party to this crime. We should raise our voice against such crimes.”
