News Center_ The widespread violations committed by the Houthis against civilians in Yemen continue, from arbitrary arrest and the enforced disappearance, in addition to strict restrictions on freedom of movement and the deterioration of humanitarian conditions in areas under their control, which increases the fragility of the civil situation amid the continuation of the conflict.

During the period from 21 September 2014 until 20 September of this year, the Houthis committed about 278,000 crimes and violations against civilians in various Yemeni cities, according to the documentation of the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms.

The Network stated in its report that during that period it documented the killing of 19,478 civilians, including 1,616 women and 1,345 children, and the injury of 42,960 civilians, including 7,348 women and 4,983 children. It noted that the crimes committed included killing, injury, kidnapping, arbitrary arrest, enforced disappearance, torture, planting mines, and child recruitment, alongside targeting homes and civilian, educational, health, and worship facilities, looting property, and obstructing humanitarian aid.

According to the Network, 1,823 civilians were killed and 7,135 others injured as a result of mines, in addition to 22,165 cases of kidnapping, enforced disappearance, and torture. It confirmed the continued detention of 6,745 abducted civilians in Houthi prisons.

The report also recorded 476 deaths as a result of torture inside prisons, 1,893 cases of exposure to physical and psychological torture, and 79 deaths due to medical negligence, alongside dozens of cases of suicide and permanent disabilities resulting from torture.

The report drew attention to the destruction or damage of 183,498 homes, as well as thousands of health and educational facilities, mosques, government facilities, water, electricity, and communications networks, roads, bridges, economic facilities, means of transport, factories, and markets.

The Network documented the targeting of 1,397 schools and educational facilities, alongside child recruitment and the use of some educational facilities for non-educational purposes. It noted that millions of children are deprived of education and that more than 12 million children need humanitarian assistance.

According to the report, the Houthis run about 739 prisons and detention centers, including 357 secret prisons, warning of the human rights and legal risks entangled with conditions of detention, enforced disappearance, torture, and ill-treatment.
