Shengal (Sinjar)- The Yazidi Free Women's Movement (Kurdish: Tevgera Azadiya Jinên Êzîdî-TAJÊ) has launched a letter-writing campaign as part of the campaign launched by the Autonomous Administration Council in Shengal demanding freedom for Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan. “When the council launched the campaign, we started writing letters upon the request of mothers. Then, we decided to launch a letter-writing campaign so that all women across Shengal can write letters to leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan). For two months, the women of Shengal have written letters to leader Apo,” said Rîham Hico, coordinating member of the TAJÊ.

 ‘We write letters with the hope that they will reach leader Apo’

Speaking about the campaign launched by the Autonomous Administration Council in Shengal, Rîham Hico said, “As TAJÊ, we launched a letter-writing campaign to support the campaign. Previously, mothers and children in Shengal wrote letters to leader Apo in order to express their feelings. After the genocide, the Yazidi community got to know leader Apo. The fighters of leader Apo rescued thousands of Yazidi women during the genocide. However, the Yazidi women could not share their feelings and thoughts with leader Apo due to the isolation imposed on him. Now, they write letters to express their feelings and thoughts. We write letters with the hope that they will reach leader Apo. We will struggle to ensure his physical freedom.”

‘The letters will be published’

Rîham Hico told NuJINHA that they would continue to carry out activities for the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan. “We will carry out many activities to demand the physical freedom of leader Apo. We will visit every house in villages and read the books of leader Apo because we want everyone to learn the thoughts of leader Apo. We will hold a tent protest and a workshop soon. Until now, many Yazidi women have written letters to leader Apo. In the letters, women share their hopes and thoughts. Some write poems in their letters. All women write that they are determined to resist. Everyone knows very well that Yazidi women were freed from the genocide thanks to leader Apo and that Yazidi women defend their people today thanks to the ideology of leader Apo. The written letter will be published later.”
