Yazidi women march to draw attention genocide against them

Seven years have passed since ISIS attacked Shengal. Yazidi women came together in Suka Kevin, where they were forced to walk as slaves. The Free Yazidi Women's Movement (TAJÊ) member Fehîme Silêman made a speech and she noted that they have formed their own defense units to not face any genocide. Yazidi women marched by wearing black burqas and then set fire to burqas symbolizing the genocide against them.

Shengal- On August 3, 2014, ISIS committed genocide against Yazidis in Shengal. Yazidis of Shengal never forget the genocide against them and they make everyone remember it. After seven years, the hundreds of Shengal’s people came together in Suka Kevin and marched to draw attention to the genocide against them. Yazidis shouted “We demand autonomy”, “Long live the resistance of Shengal”, “The resistance of women will prevent genocides” slogans and they held pictures, chains and wore black burqas.

Slogans and tears

Yazidis marched in Suka Kevin to commemorate those who lost their lives during the genocide. Women shouted slogans while shedding tears. The Yazidis demanded the genocide against them be recognized by all countries.

“Enslaved women were forced to walk this street”

After the march, the Free Yazidi Women's Movement (TAJÊ) member Fehîme Silêman made a speech. On August 3, 2014, hundreds and thousands of Yazidi women were enslaved and forced to march on this street. We want to turn the genocidal march that started from this street into a freedom march today,” Fehîme Silêman said in her speech.

Fehîme Silêman said that they want their autonomy and govern themselves, “Our children, our daughters, and our spouses suffered a lot and we want to govern ourselves so that we will not face new sufferings. We have formed our own security forces to protect ourselves; we have formed our military force,” Fehîme Silêman thanked everyone, who helped them against the attacks of ISIS.

After the speech, Yazidi women took off the black burqas and set fire to them.
